Happy Memorial Day

I hope everyone has enjoyed their day today and, more importantly, I hope everyone remembers what the day is for. The boys and I did not attend the Memorial Day Service with Adam today like we normally do, but he did go. It's always a very moving service with a 21-gun salute and the Honor Guard playing Taps. They also recognize the veterans who are there and the wars/conflicts they served in. There is also a reading of the names of the servicemen and women from our area who have lost their lives serving our country.
I've started explaining the meaning of the day to the boys so that they understand that there are men and women who have given their lives for our freedom. They like looking at the flags on the poles as we drive through town and when they asked why they were there, I took the opportunity to explain it to them. Surprisingly, a few days later they still remember and were able to tell me what we had talked about. I hope they always remember.

Moving on

Okay, I'm finally finished with Easter!!! I'll try to update more in the next couple of days with things that have happened since April 8th.

Easter Egg Hunt (once more)

We always hunt eggs at my parents' house on Easter day, so here we go. Trent and Grady were there with us and we found lots of eggs and played on the swingset. All of the boys always get baskets of goodies from aunts, uncles and grandparents.

And then the hunt begins. Some eggs are hidden low, some high.

Some are just hidden in strange places.

Regardless of where they are found, all 5 of the boys always have a great time finding the eggs.

It was a cool, windy day but that didn't prevent everyone from playing for a while after the eggs were all found. The swingset that PawPaw made is always a gathering place for adults and children alike.

And this is what I call a barrel of monkeys.
It was also a time for family snapshots. It had been a while since my mom and dad had a picture taken with all 4 kids, for the 4 of us to take one together and for Ninny and PawPaw to take one with all 5 grandsons. But, we accomplished all of that on Easter afternoon.

We also got pictures of Troy, Amber and Grady...

Tina, Tommy and Trent...

and of course, Adam, the boys and me.

Easter Morning

After all the fun of coloring the eggs, the Easter Bunny made a stop by our house on Easter morning. Here they are looking for the loot.

They found it!!

Easter morning bed-head...

The Easter baskets included lots of good things like Cadbury Eggs (yum!):

And silly putty...

...which Adam showed them was stretchy and would copy things from the newspaper.

Happy faces on Easter morning:

Coloring Eggs

The night before Easter, we always dye our eggs. This year, we did 3 dozen (I think). The boys really had a good time with all the colors. Here's our eggs and our coloring cups.

We also ended up with colored fingertips.

The amazement of the eggs turning colors...

Can you tell we're having fun?
Whatchu lookin' at mama?
